The famous Sentosa, previously called Pulau Blakang Mati, is an island in Singapore that once served as a British military base as well as a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp.

In 1972, the island was renamed Sentosa and became a tourist destination. Today, it is not home to a world-famous resort and a whole lot of other attractions that accommodate some 20 million visitors every year. Besides the tourist destinations, there are also just as many event spaces in Sentosa that businesses are hosting events in.

Sentosa now brands itself as The State of Fun which fittingly describes the fun you can have on the island. But, because it is frequented by visitors from across the globe, almost any kind of fun on the island is tagged with a hefty price and it’s probably where the joke that Sentosa is actually an acronym for So Expensive and Nothing to See Also comes from.

Now, if ever you’re attending a corporate event in Sentosa and happens to have free time to tour the island, you’ll probably be surprised by the number of things you can do in Sentosa for absolutely free!

Check our list as we enumerate the things you can do in the island without hurting your wallet:

Fort Siloso

Regarded as home to the largest collection of WW2 vintage military memorabilia, Siloso is a place that offers a wealth of information about Singapore’s WW2 history. There are free guided tours available every second or third Saturday of the month, 3 pm to 4:30 pm.

There is also the Fort Siloso Skywalk that offers a breathtaking, uninterrupted view of the surroundings. There are also other stops as you venture 11 storeys off the ground, which educate you with interesting historical facts. The Skywalk is open all day but the lift operates only from 9 am-7 pm.

Palawan Beach

At the southernmost point of continental Asia is a small island that offers a beautiful beach view, particularly during sunset. The Palawan Beach is accessible via a suspension bridge and is home to the famous Palawan Amphitheatre where events such as Animals and Birds Encounter are hosted.

The show, which runs every day from 2 pm to 5:30 allows you to encounter birds and other animals up close and personal. Here, you can participate in the feeding of animals and get familiar with them. In the same island, there is also a Pirate Ship, a free water park that attracts children from 3 to 10 years old.

Three Sentosa Beaches

We’ve already mentioned the Palawan Beach, but aside from that, there are two other beaches that complete Sentosa - Tanjong Beach and Siloso Beach. All of these beaches attract different crowds and offer individual outdoor experiences among guests.

Coastes, is a beach club situated in the long stretch of Siloso lives up to tourist’s expectation of a beautiful getaway with its rustic charm and laid-back vibe. What’s more, if ever you’re attending an event hosted in the Sentosa beach club, you’ll find yourself in a location that is near many key destinations in the island.
