What is yoga? Yoga is a practice that’s been done for hundreds, if not thousands of years. It is an ancient practice steeped in culture and tradition. Yoga, in its essence, is a group of spiritual, mental, and physical practices designed to discipline oneself and strengthen both mind and body. It is a collection of physical postures, meditation, and deep breathing techniques that have become famous throughout the world as both a relaxing yet fun and challenging exercise.

Choosing where to start?

Due to its rich 5,000 year history, yoga has developed into many styles, variations, and schools of thought. If you’re interested in learning more about yoga and what it can do for you, you have to be aware of which particular type of yoga you’re going to take-- for example, Chinese yoga classes may focus more on breathing techniques, while Vinyasa yoga is said to be a great jumping-off point for beginners.

Before you enter a class, you should also take into consideration the school that you are considering and the instructor you have chosen. Your experience rests largely on whether you enjoy the class or not. For example, the yoga courses in one may be more intensive than the other.
